Daigle Part of the Fallen Flags Series, more to come Please do NOT upload at any other site WITHOUT my permission Hope Yall enjoy it About Denver-Chicago Trucking Co. had its beginnings in the early 1930s, a 31' International A-5 did the hauling back then. The real growth began in 1939 with the purchase of Denver-Los Angeles Trucking Co., this purchase added Los Angeles, San Diego, and Arizona to the routes. By the end of WWII, D-C had purchased a few other companies including the purchase of Adams Transfer & Storage Co. of Kansas City. With that acquisistion, D-C had the rights to the East Coast and becoming a coast to coast carrier. By the mid to late 50's, the fleet numbered over 3000 units consisting of six or seven different brands of tractors. By 1966, employees numbers 3500. In 1969, they merged with 2 other companies and formed TIME-DC I know some will be saying, why did I paint a "Yard Toter", but what many of you do not know, in the 1950's, Kenworth came out with the CBE, or Cab Beside Engine configuration for highway trucks, including a sleeper variant. This was one of the first attempts to lighten up power ends for more freight in the days of strict length restrictions for road trucks. D-C Trucking was one of the largest users of the CBE, which the majority were sleeper versions used in team operations. Daigle Part of the Fallen Flags Series After digging around through many resources, I wasnt able to get much about the history of Greenstein, compared to many of the other packs Ive made. However with the limited information I have acquired, they were in operation from the late 50's to the early 90's. Owned by Shendel Greenstein and her husband, Shendel stayed behind the helm of Greenstein for over 40 yrs till her death in 1993. Greenstein Trucking was a 100% owner operator company, meaning no company trucks, but, Greenstein had their own colors for the trucks that ran for the company, every truck that put the company logo on, had to be in company colors, one way or another, meaning, not one truck was painted identical. They were a variaty of stripe combinations, but all of them had the same color green, in one form or another. About Only one truck running through the mountains and deserts of Utah and Nevada is how founder Thomas Carter started is truck line, Salt Lake and Ely Transportion Co. in 1929. Freight at that time was anything he could load on his truck. By 1932 the name of the company changed to Interstate Motor Lines. From this humble beginning, by 1956 Carter purchased several other companies, which extended the freight lanes from Los Angeles to Chicago. In 1962 Thomas Carter passed away, leaving the the company in the hands of his two sons, Robert and Joe in charge of IML. The company continued to extend its reach further east to Louisville and Cincinnati in 1963 by acquiring two more companies. In 1964, the name was again changed for the 3rd time, from Interstate Motor Lines to IML Freight Inc. In 1965 IML became part of the GATES Rubber Co. and by 1966 IML became the eighth motor carrier to provide coast to coast operations with the purchase of Eastern Motor Dispatch of Columbus,Ohio. During the 1970s IML continued to grow by adding more terminals in several key cities across the country. By the end of 1974, IMLs fleet totaled 625 tractors, 493 trucks and over 2300 trailers.
